Project Spotlight: Historic Restoration Pergola

Modern style structures are lovely but sometimes a space really comes alive when history is honored.

Walpole Outdoors recently spent time at this Wyckoff, New Jersey home to recreate several beautiful wooden structures that had deteriorated beyond repair. To maintain the look Walpole used the original structures as inspiration for the updated versions that would take its place.

Walpole crafted several pergolas to replace wooden structures that had deteriorated.

The new main pergola is 9 feet, 7 inches long and 8 feet, 5 ¾ inches wide. It has 8 foot by 8 foot fluted Darien columns with steel cores. The 3 ½ inch by 7 ¼ inch beams feature aluminum cores, as do the 1 ½ inch by 7 ¼ inch joists.

Standing close by the larger structure is a shorter pergola, reminiscent of a gallery arbor. A more compact version of the main structure, it has a greater expanse of custom lattice with side panels that stand 63 ½ inches tall.

This historic restoration features numerous small details throughout.

Each of the new structures is crafted in AZEK cellular PVC, a material that looks and feels like real wood but will last years longer and require little to no maintenance.

The AZEK material will ensure that these beautiful pergolas will last longer than their wooden predecessors and never split or rot.
